Short biography
After a degree in Civil Engineering and working as a construction and design engineer, Joana Oliveira Almeida began his career as a teacher in polytechnic higher education. She completed her master's and doctorate degrees in Civil Engineering at the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto (FEUP).
Joana Oliveira Almeida has been a Professor at the Polytechnic Institute of Viana do Castelo (IPVC), since 2001, where she has been responsible for several curricular units in the Civil Engineering area. She is a member of the Pedagogical Council, is the Coordinator of the Course in Construction and Rehabilitation and was responsible for the Building Materials Testing Laboratory. At IPVC, Joana Oliveira Almeida has organized several technical and educational events and has provided several specialized services. In the scientific field, she has supervised internships and master's theses, has been a member of juries for master's exams, has participated in projects, and published and reviewed articles in conferences and journals. Her main research interests include life-cycle cost analysis, genetic algorithms optimization, construction materials, degradation models, risk analysis, bridge management systems, structures inspection and assessment, intelligent decision support systems and sustainable buildings.
