Ana Isabel Oliveira Faria Ferraz

Short biography

Ana Isabel Oliveira Faria Ferraz started her teaching career at IPVC in 1999, and is Adjunct Professor since 2010.

Academic qualifications: i) PhD in Chemical and Biological Engineering, Minho University (2008); ii) Master in Environmental Technologies, Minho University (1998); Graduation in Food Engineering, ESB-UCP (1995). 

Other qualifications: AQUA+ Consultant, water use efficiency in residential buildings (ADENE – Agency for Energy), Certificate AQ0153

Roles and responsibilities assumed include: i) the coordination of the Environmental Science Disciplinary Group (2016-2020); ii) the coordination of the Geoinformatics and Environmental Engineering graduation program (2021- ); iii) the coordination of the Environmental Science and Technologies graduation program (2014-2020); iv) Member of the Pedagogic Council (2006-2008; 2011-2017; 2018-2020; 2021- ).

Teaching (as regent): Waste and wastewater treatment technologies (Environmental and Land Engineering Master program); Water Supply and Drainage Systems; Energy and Mobility (Geoinformatics and Environmental Engineering graduation program); Process Separation (Biotecology graduation program).

Research interests are focused in the study and optimisation of technical solutions to promote circular bio economy, processes sustainability and climate change adaptation. The R&D activity includes the participation, as Team Member, in several R&D Projects mainly concerning the development of eco technologies for wastewater and agroindustrial wastes treatment and valorisation, and the participation in specialised services as a technical auditor to assess the quality of water supply, sanitation and urban waste services provided by municipalities.  

The participation as (co)author in book chapters and peer review journals include the following topics: struvite precipitation; nutrient recovery; circular economy; biogas plants; multi-criteria spatial decision; sustainability; anaerobic (co)digestion; ecological sanitation; nature based solutions; biochar; low cost adsorbents.
